Dear Husky Fan,

 

On Sunday, October 7, 2007, RYAN GOMES INC., (an organization committed to empowering today's youth for tomorrow's challenges) and The CONNECTICUT BASKETBALL STARZ (an organization sponsored by a group of volunteers and Women's Husky Basketball Fans), will sponsor the 2nd Annual CONNECTICUT STARZ Benefit Basketball Game at the University of Hartford. This year, the benefactors will be The Diana Taurasi Foundation, The Ann Strother Basketball Court Project, The Rita Williams Basketball Academy and The Arthur C. Luf Children’s Burn Camp.

 

For this event, we have received commitments from Diana Taurasi, Sue Bird, Ann Strother, Ashley Battle, Maria Conlon, Jessica Moore, Barbara Turner, Willnett Crocket, Rita Williams, Ashley Valley, Nicole Wolff, Nykesha Sales and Asjha Jones. Ryan Gomes, Boston Celtics Star, will also be appearing along with Meghan Pattyson-Culmo who will be hosting the event. Each year, RYAN GOMES INC. and the CONNECTICUT STARZ reach out and support charities. This year’s benefactors share a common philosophy and goal, which is to help children and adolescents in need, via a multitude of programs that increases confidence and self-worth. Each of these children brings his/her personal journey of pain and frustration. Beneath their struggles sits a silver lining of hope, compassion and understanding, waiting to be embraced.

 

Last year’s game highlighted the talents of some of Connecticut’s local high school players and UConn basketball stars, with teams captained by Diana Taurasi and Sue Bird. The game was held in a sold out Torrington High School gym with 1500 excited and cheering UConn fans! Because of this sellout, we have a larger venue this year at the University of Hartford in order to accommodate the many fans who were unable to purchase tickets. Most of the game tickets will be pre-sold, with a limited number of tickets available at the door on the day of the game. Game ticket donations are $27.00 and $32.00 each. The pre-game reception with the UConn players is $100.00 per person, which includes one game ticket. The reception is limited to 250 attendees. Donations are tax deductible and only checks will be accepted via mail, payable to CONNECTICUT BASKETBALL STARZ and mailed to the above address.

 

Major sponsors will be recognized in advertising of the STARZ game, and will receive tickets and VIP seating. Prior to the game, sponsors are invited to an informal reception at the University of Hartford to meet and greet UConn’s outstanding former players who gave so much of themselves to the people of Connecticut.

 

The volunteers who are coordinating the STARZ event are asking for your commitment and sponsorship of this exciting sporting event and the children it will serve.
